Gris-Gris Lyrics

You know I've never been to Venezuela
But everything is fine south of the Rust Belt line
I think I like it, yes, those southern cats are really uniqueTell me why
Why does the grass always seem greenerI'm going to take a trip to New Orleans
Where nobody cares how you shop your wares
Long as it sounds good
Yes, it's all about that spicy cuisineTell me why
Why does the grass always seem greenerGonna skip this town and head on down to Louisiana
I'm gonna skip this town and head on down, take my advice
Folks up there will start a fight with a cold chunk of iceLet's drink some mash and talk some trash till morning
Let's drink some mash and talk some trash till morning
This song's like a lost ship at sea that's the same as wandering

Forget the violin. Forget the classical background. As troubadour Andrew Bird puts it, “At this point the violin just happens to be the instrument I have on hand to make the sounds that I hear. I like to abuse it and pull as many sounds out of it as I can.” Bird is a masterful and intuitive singer / songwriter, and what he does while performing—alternately plucking and bowing his violin, then immediately sampling the results, layering the sounds with guitar, whistling, glockenspiel and vocals—bears little resemblance to what most people might expect.
