Heart in a Cage Lyrics

Oh, the heart beats in its cageWell I don't feel better when I'm fucking around
And I don't write better when I'm stuck in the ground
So don't teach me a lesson 'cause I've already learned
Yes, the sun will be shining and my children will burnOh, the heart beats in its cageI don't want what you want and I don't feel what you feel
You see I'm stuck in the city but I belong in a fieldOh, we gotta laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh
Now it's three in the morning and you're eating alongOh, the heart beats in its cageAll your friends are laughing at us
All the ones you loved you mistrust
Help me now I'm not quite myself
Look around there's no one else leftWell I went to the concert and I fought through the crowd
Guess I got too excited when I thought you were aroundO,h I gotta laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh
And I'm sorry you were thinking that I would steal your fireOh, the heart beats in its cage
Oh, the heart beats in its cage

Chris Thile is a renowned mandolin player and a founding member of the progressive bluegrass trio Nickel Creek with Sara Watkins and Sean Watkins. Thile began recording his first solo album in 1993, with most songs of his own composition. After two more solo albums of all original material, he teamed with mandolin master Mike Marshall for a stunning album of duets called Into the Cauldron, which included forays into jazz, world music, and Bach. In 2004 Chris released Deceiver, a departure from his earlier work which contained a variety of pop/rock/folk influenced vocal numbers.
