The Believer Lyrics

You can point and laugh
I'm sure he's used to that
Using faith like an acrobat 'til the net breaksHe won't get upset
That though we've never met
I know, everything he's said 'cause a friend once told meHe's got hell fire in his eyes
There is madness behind the lies
He would burn us all alive just to prove his pointGod save the believer
We mistake for a deceiver
'Cause it makes us feel betterThe time has come and gone
To say what's right and wrong
People like him don't belong 'cause we're all okayYou'd better write him off
Without a second thought
'Cause thinking just leads to getting caught in the traps he sets, likeWho is that on his knees?
It's that daring young man from the flying trapeze
Crying "father, father, help me please" well good luck, pal
'Cause you're gonna need itGod save the believer
We mistake for a deceiver
'Cause it makes us feel betterHe's got hell fire in his eyes

There is madness behind the lies
He would burn us all alive just to prove his pointGod save the believer
We mistake for a deceiver
'Cause it makes us feel better

Chris Thile is a renowned mandolin player and a founding member of the progressive bluegrass trio Nickel Creek with Sara Watkins and Sean Watkins. Thile began recording his first solo album in 1993, with most songs of his own composition. After two more solo albums of all original material, he teamed with mandolin master Mike Marshall for a stunning album of duets called Into the Cauldron, which included forays into jazz, world music, and Bach. In 2004 Chris released Deceiver, a departure from his earlier work which contained a variety of pop/rock/folk influenced vocal numbers.
