Heartbreak Avenue Lyrics

She was just sixteen
With a pack of cigarettes and a pawn shop ring
She wanted things to turn out like she'd seen right there
On that silver screenSo she hit the road
With her thumb in the air and a ring in her nose
She had a tattoo of a butterfly because that's the way it goes
When you don't know, just which way the wind will blowHey girl
Where are you going to
Say that you'll be the queen
Of Heartbreak AvenueShe met a boy out there
With a silver El Dorado and jet black hair
He had a tattoo of Elvis so they took their clothes off to compare
And well you know just how far these things can goThen the sun came shining bright
And true love in the morning doesn't feel like it is last night
He left a letter that said goodbye
Hold on tight now he's gone so she'll just move alongHey girl
Where are you going to
Say that you'll be the queen

Of Heartbreak AvenueSo you say that you don't know how
Your broken dreams just drag you downHey girl
Where are you going to
Say that you'll be the queen
Of Heartbreak AvenueHey girl
Will you go with children
Hey girl

Mungo Jerry is an English folk/classic rock group from Ashford, Englandwhose greatest success was in the early 1970s, though they have continued throughout the years with an ever-changing line-up, always fronted by Ray Dorset. They are remembered above all for their hit "In The Summertime". It remains their most successful and most instantly recognisable song. Their name was inspired by the poem Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer, from T. S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.
