Hold Me Down Lyrics

My demons are begging me to open up my mouth
I need them, mechanically make the words come out
They fight me, vigorous and angry, watch them pounce
Ignite me, licking up the flames they bring aboutI sold my soul to a three-piece
And he told me I was holy
He's got me down on both knees
But it's the devil that's trynaHold me down, hold me down
Sneaking out the back door, make no sound
Knock me out, knock me out
Saying that I want more, this is what I live forHold me down, hold me down
Throw me in the deep end, watch me drown
Knock me out, knock me out
Saying that I want more, this is what I live forSelfish, taking what I want and call it mine
I'm helpless, clinging to a little bit of spine
They rush me, telling me I'm running out of time
They shush me (sssh), walking me across a fragile lineI sold my soul to a three-piece

Knock me out, knock me out
Saying that I want more, this is what I live forHold me down now
Hold me down now
Hold me downI sold my soul to a three-piece
And he told me I was holy
He's got me down on both knees
But it's the devil that's trynaHold me down, hold me down
Sneaking out the back door, make no sound
Knock me out, knock me out
Saying that I want more, this is what I live forHold me down, hold me down
Throw me in the deep end, watch me drown
Knock me out, knock me out
Saying that I want more, this is what I live for

Ashley Nicolette Frangipane (born September 29, 1994), known by her stage name Halsey /ˈhɔːl.zɪ/, is an American singer and songwriter. She started songwriting at the age of 17. In 2014, she signed her first recording contract with Astralwerks and released her debut EP, titled Room 93. Her debut studio album, Badlands, was released in 2015.

Halsey was born in New Jersey as Ashley Frangipane. She is biracial, with an African American father and an Italian American mother. Halsey had musical roots growing up, originally playing the violin, viola, and cello until moving onto the acoustic guitar when she was 14. The first song she learned to play on the guitar is said to be Taylor Swift's song "Fifteen". Around the age of 16 or 17, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. When she was 18, Halsey encountered financial trouble and music became a way to pay her rent. She played numerous acoustic shows in different cities under various stage names. She chose "Halsey" as her moniker because it is an anagram of her real name as well as a street in Brooklyn where she spent a lot of time as a teenager. Halsey originally planned on going to college to major in fine arts but instead enrolled in a community college as a creative writing major after realizing she could not afford it. Halsey identifies as bisexual.
