I Thought I'd Heard It All Lyrics

I heard you cry yourself to sleep
And wake up in the night and walk the floor
And I heard you try to tell me something
Just as I was runnin' out the doorAnd I heard you say, "I love you"
So many times I can't recall
But until I heard you say good-bye
I thought I'd heard it allNo, I hadn't heard the fortress
That I'd built around my ego fall apart
That self-destructing unmistaken cryin'
Of my own broken heartI heard you whisper little things
No one else on earth was meant to hear
And I can't believe it's possible
You're whisperin' in someone else's earUntil tonight I didn't know how far
A grown man could crawl
Oh, until I heard me beggin' you
I thought I'd heard it allNo, I hadn't heard the fortress
That I'd built around my ego fall apart
That self-destructing unmistaken cryin'

Of my own broken heartNo, I hadn't heard that little voice inside me
Screamin' fool what have you done
As my tears start fallAnd I realize the worst is yet to come
And I thought I'd heard it all
Oh, I realize the worst is yet to come
And I thought I'd heard it all

Dallas-born to a family who loved music, Deryl Dodd grew up on gospel, bluegrass, country and rootsy rock and roll. He was heavily influenced by the soulful southern music at the Hasse Revival Center where his grandfather was pastor of the small town Pentecostal church. Deryl's first performances were there, singing harmony with his three siblings. Guitar at age seven, banjo at thirteen, pedal steel at sixteen - the young Dodd's hands nearly always gripped a stringed instrument.
