Island Lyrics

She's like the ocean that takes my breath away
Endless an' open and in a moment she can change
Like water flowin' and fillin' up my soul
No way of knowing how deep she really goes
An' sometimes I can predict her like the tides
An' some days her storm'll take me by surpriseBut I'm her rock up on the shoreline
I'm her piece of solid ground
An' I'm the one that she can lean on
When her waves come crashin' downAn' she's afraid that with the rain
I'll drift away an' I'll disappear
But she's my ocean an' I'm her island
I ain't goin' anywhereWhat she don't know is before she came along
I was goin' nowhere, so close to being gone
Just another drifter lost at sea
Until the day her love surrounded meNow, I'm her rock up on the shoreline
I'm her piece of solid ground
An' I'm the one that she can lean on
When her waves come crashin' downAn' she's afraid that with the rain

I'll drift away an' I'll disappear
But she's my ocean an' I'm her island
I ain't goin' anywhereAn' she's afraid that with the rain
I'll drift away an' I'll disappear
But I'm stayin' right here
'Cause she's my ocean an' I'm her island
I ain't goin' anywhereYeah, I'm her island

Willmon was raised on a ranch near Afton, Texas. By his second year in college, he dropped out to join a bluegrass band. In 1995, he moved to Nashville to start a songwriting career, and by 1998 he had a song-publishing contract with Sea Gayle Music. One of his first cuts as a songwriter was "It Doesn't Mean I Don't Love You". This song was recorded by the short-lived duo McHayes (which comprised 1990s country singer Wade Hayes and fiddler Mark McClurg), and reached #41 on the country charts in 2003.
