John the Baptist Lyrics

Hey, welcome home
I got a little wine
Some marvin gaye
Come on and taste me
Come on and take me, I'm yoursDance, little sister, dance
This is my girl you're talkin' to
There isn't anythin' I wouldn't do
So take me, so taste me, erase me
I'm yours let's get it onAnythin' for a lover
Anythin' for a friend
I only wanna see you happy
Baby can we pretend
I'd give anythin' to see you dance
I'd give anythin' to see you smile
Baby, doesn't want just anythin'
She wants everythin'Hey welcome home
I got a little wine
I got a little time

So come on take me
Come on taste me
Come on and waste me
Come on and erase me
I'm yours let's get it onAnythin' for a lover
Anythin' for a friend
I only wanna see you happy
Baby can we pretend
I'd give anythin' to see you dance
I'd give anythin' to see you smile
But baby doesn't want just anythin'
She wants everythin'I've got the devil in me, girl
I've got the devil in me, girl
I've got the devil in me, girlEverything for the lover
Everything for the lover

Scottish folk singer John Martyn was originally hired to be his British wife Beverley's back-up guitarist for recording sessions in America, the pair were signed up by Warner Brothers who sent them to Woodstock in 1969 to rehearse with producer Paul Harris. The actual recording at R&R Studios, New York, took only six days with two days mixing. The album was released in February 1970. Martyn was inspired by The Band's Music From Big Pink to experiment to find a distinctive guitar sound. Two tracks "Would You Believe Me" and "The Ocean" marked the tentative introduction to Martyn's pioneering guitar technique. Levon Helm guested on drums on the two tracks "Sweet Honesty" (Beverley Martin) and "John the Baptist" (John Martyn.) Read more on Last.fm.
