Just in Time (To Watch Love Die) Lyrics

Three's a stack of daily papers on her doorstep
And the grass has grown up more than she'd allow
Yes, it seems to me to be a little more like a vacationNever knew that I'd miss her until now
From both ends the candle seems to burn much brighter
Guess she saw the flame I tried so hard to hideLooks like I'm the one that got caught in the middle
Burnt my finger
I got there just in time to watch love die
Yeah, I got there just in time to watch love dieThere's a change of address blank inside the mailbox
And the key she'd usually leave for me not here
Yes, it's plain to see that she no longer wants an explanationGuess I should have known I would not find her here
From both ends the candle seems to burn much brighter
I guess she saw the flame I tried so hard to hideLooks like I'm the one that got caught in the middle
Burnt my finger
I got there just in time to watch love die
But I got there much to late to say goodbye

A life-long renegade, singer/songwriter David Allan Coe is one of the most colorful and unpredictable characters in country music history. One of the pioneering artists of the outlaw country movement of the '70s, he hasn't had many big hits — only three of his singles hit the Top Ten — but he has been among the biggest cult figures in country music throughout his career. Born in Akron, OH, Coe first got into trouble with the law at age nine. As a result, he was sent to reform school.
