Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile Lyrics

Mona Lisa lost her smile
The painter's hands are trembling now
And if she's out there running wild
It's just because I taught her howThe masterpiece that we had planned
Is laying shattered on the ground
Mona Lisa lost her smile
And the painter's hands are trembling nowAnd the eyes that used to burn for me
Now they no longer look my way
And the love that used to be
Why, it just got lost in yesterdayAnd if she seems cold to the touch
Well there used to burn a flame
I gave too little, took too much
Till I erased the painter's nameMona Lisa lost her smile
The painter's hands are trembling now
And if she's out there running wild
It's just because I taught her howThe masterpiece that we had planned
Is laying shattered on the ground
Mona Lisa lost her smile

And the painter's hands are trembling nowMona Lisa lost her smile
And the painter's hands are trembling now
And if she's out there running wild
It's just because I taught her howAnd the masterpiece that we had planned
It's laying shattered on the ground
Mona Lisa lost her smile
And the painter's hands are trembling now

A life-long renegade, singer/songwriter David Allan Coe is one of the most colorful and unpredictable characters in country music history. One of the pioneering artists of the outlaw country movement of the '70s, he hasn't had many big hits — only three of his singles hit the Top Ten — but he has been among the biggest cult figures in country music throughout his career. Born in Akron, OH, Coe first got into trouble with the law at age nine. As a result, he was sent to reform school.
