Epifolium plays ambient, acoustic-electric folk. Drawing much of his material from traditional Estonian folk songs, Epifolium combines enchanting kannels, gentle guitars, haunting metallophones and soothing percussion into tranquil, cinematic soundscapes. On stage, multi-instrumentalist Iisak Sulev Andreller plays all the instruments himself and loops and twists them into a captivating, yet calming live performance.

-----

Born in Wales, raised in Canada but with Estonian roots, self-taught musician Iisak Sulev Andreller returned to his homeland for the first time in 2008 to explore his family history and traditional Estonian music. He attended every folk festival he could, including a 5-day folk music workshop where he learned to play the kannel (the Estonian National instrument) adding to the repertoire of other instruments he had already mastered. Learning this traditional Estonian instrument through playing old folk songs planted the initial seed for what would soon become Epifolium.

With Estonia now being Iisak’s permanent home, he has developed Epifolium from a simple concept to a polished one-man show. Early on, he took home second prize for a demo version of 'Neli sõrme' at the KlassikaRaadio National Recording contest; and the song 'fovrd' was featured on Toatuur 2, a compilation by the Õunaviks record label which also featured Estonian artists such as Pastacas, Kago, Mari Pokinen, and Silver Sepp of Bombillaz.

In 2012, Epifolium released his self-titled debut album and the summer saw Epifolium performing at folk festivals across Estonia to resounding success. 2013 will prove to be an even more interesting year as Epifolium plans to increase the number of live shows performed and festivals attended. Already adding to his repertoire with instruments like the cajón, chirango and quenacho from recent travels through South America, Epifolium’s sound will continue to experiment and stretch the boundaries of how we’ve traditionally looked at folk music.
