Knocking On Heavens Door Lyrics

Mama, take this badge off of me
I can't use it anymore
It's getting dark, too dark for me to see
Feels like I'm knocking on heaven's doorKnock, knock, knocking on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knocking on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knocking on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knocking on heaven's doorMama, put my guns in the ground
I can't shoot them anymore
That cold black cloud is coming down
Feels like I'm knocking on heaven's doorKnock, knock, knocking on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knocking on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knocking on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knocking on heaven's doorKnock, knocking on heaven's doorYou just better start sniffing your own rank subjugation Jack
'Cause it's just you against your tattered libido
The bank and the mortician, forever man
And it wouldn't be luck, if you could get out of life aliveKnock, knock, knocking on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knocking on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knocking on heaven's door

A life-long renegade, singer/songwriter David Allan Coe is one of the most colorful and unpredictable characters in country music history. One of the pioneering artists of the outlaw country movement of the '70s, he hasn't had many big hits — only three of his singles hit the Top Ten — but he has been among the biggest cult figures in country music throughout his career. Born in Akron, OH, Coe first got into trouble with the law at age nine. As a result, he was sent to reform school.
