Laid Back and Wasted Lyrics

By D. MurphyLaid back and wasted
Driven to drinking
A woman ain't nothing to lose
Don't ever doubt it
I'll live without it
I'll give you the bluesI spent a lifetime
Looking for the answers
Somewhere in search of my soul
I lost it in Nashville
I found it in Austin
I sold it in New MexicoTen thousand miles
Of road dust can't cover
The scars that I put on my arm
And the bridges I'm burning
Will never erase
The scars that they've put on my heartDying looks easy
Drifting gets harder
I don't know which one to choose

Don't ever doubt it
I'll live without it
I'll give you the bluesLaid back and wasted
Driven to drinking
A woman ain't nothing to lose
Don't ever doubt it
I'll live without it
I'll give you the bluesDon't ever doubt it
I'll live without it
I'll give you the blues

A life-long renegade, singer/songwriter David Allan Coe is one of the most colorful and unpredictable characters in country music history. One of the pioneering artists of the outlaw country movement of the '70s, he hasn't had many big hits — only three of his singles hit the Top Ten — but he has been among the biggest cult figures in country music throughout his career. Born in Akron, OH, Coe first got into trouble with the law at age nine. As a result, he was sent to reform school.
