Last Song Lyrics

If this were my last song
Would you listen closer?
If this were my last song
Would you lean in?
If this were my last song
Would you hum along?
If this were my last song
Would you try to remember everything? The shape of my neck, everything
The size of my breasts, everythingThe things you dislike, everything
My ego, my pride, everything
The sound of my scream, everything
The breath in between everything
The first song before everything
If this were my last song
I might just sing louder
If this were my last song
I would ask the band to slow it down
If this were my last song

We'd sing harmonies
If this were my last song
I would try to tell you everythingThe times that I lied, everything
The days that I cried, everything
The lovers I knew, everything
My hungry nights too, everything
My grandmothers brave, everything
The last time I prayed, everything
The first song before everything
If this were my last song
If this were my last song
I'd thank the room,
The air and hearts around me
I'd breathe deeper and deeper
And hold the notes for a while

Somi is a U.S. singer and songwriter of African extraction. Born in Illinois to East African parents, Somi and her six siblings began to shuffle through the life of a diplomat scientist-cum-university professor’s family, thus exposing Somi to stories and music from all over the world. Having lived in Zambia, Kenya, and Tanzania, upon moving to New York City Somi was the featured vocalist in the African Globe Theatre production of Drums under the African Sky. This led to collaborations with Amel Larrieux, Tsidii Le Loka, Roy Hargrove, Lionel Loueke, and Lonnie Plaxico.
