Leaving Trunk Lyrics

Went up stairs to pack my leaving trunk
I ain't seen no blues whiskey made me sloppy drunk
I ain'ts had no whiskey, the blues made me sloppy drunk
Goin' back to memphis baby, I had much better luck
Look here mama you know you asked me to be your kin
Said you can man if you only keep it here
But don't let my husband, my main man catch you here
Don't let my main man, my husband catch you here
Them blues, woke up three different ways
One says go the other two says stay
I woke up this morning
I had the blues three different ways
One says go man, the other two says stay
Went up stairs, packing my leavin' trunk
I seen no blues or whiskey baby sloppy drunk
I ain'ts had no whiskey, you know the blues, blues make me sloppy drunk
One says go man, the other two says stay here

Alternate 4th Verse:
Wake up momma, I got something to say to you
I said I'm a man, I'm going to sing the blues
Wake up momma, I got, I got, something I want to tell you
Said I'm a man, I love to sing the blues

In the 1960s Jenkins was the leader of a band called the Pinetoppers, he employed a young singer called Otis Redding as his chauffeur and singer for the Pinetoppers. During a recording session in 1962 organized by the band's manager Phil Walden, Jenkins left 40 minutes of studio time unused.
