Life Boat Lyrics

Every time I open my mouth
Or take off my clothes
I am raw and frostbitten
From being exposed
I got red scabby hands
And purple scabby feet
And you can smell me coming
From half way down the street
And I remember that old hotel had quite the smell
Where I would go to use the phone
Between the donut shop and the pizza parlor
Where I learned to live alone
Sweet sixteen and smiling
My way out of any jam
Learning the ways of the world, oh my
Learning the ways of man, oh
And I didn't really want a baby
And I guess that I had a choice

But I just let it grow inside me
Its persistent little voice
And I guess I got her off and running
And then run off is what she did
And that's a part of what I think about
When I think about that kid
So now there's nothing left to wish upon
Except the passing cars
The cacophony of city lights
Is drowning out the stars
This park bench is a life boat
And the rest a big dark sea
And I'm just gonna lie here
Until something comes and finds me
Yeah, I got this tired old face
Still grinning most of the time
Just cause it don't have a better way
To express what's on its mind
And I got this running monolog
Entertaining in its outrage
And I've got the air of an animal
That's been living in a cage
Every time I open my mouth
Or take off my clothes
I am raw and frostbitten
From being exposed
I got red scabby hands
And purple scabby feet
And you can smell me coming
From half way down the street

KING TIDE was formed in early 2004 after a successful reggae jam between vocalist Tony Hughes and ‘toaster’ Sean Collins. During a live show in Sydney, the band was spotted by advertising executives who asked them to record a cover of Toots and the Maytals’ “Broadway Jungle” for a Sony TV ad campaign. The band released the cover as a full length single ‘No Dog War’, which received national airplay. KING TIDE built a loyal following of fans last year with lots of gigs around Sydney and the North Coast, and began to record an album. Then Tony gets a call from Sean who is at the Police Station on his way to Villawood Detention Centre to be processed and deported… Sean had been living in Bondi, fell into a band, fell in love with a girl, and overstayed his visa!!! A bond was raised and Sean was bailed out of Villawood the week before his departure to record his vocals on the album. KING TIDE have called their debut album To Our Dearly Deported in honour of Sean who has returned home to the States. He keeps in regular contact with Tony and the band and looks forward to one day returning to our shores!!!

KING TIDE features Tony Hughes on vocals, Sean Collins as toaster, Terapai Richmond on drums, Alex Hewetson on bass, Lindsay Page on keys and trombone and Tony Gilbert on guitar. The album also features special guest vocalists Lynda Jannsen (Wicked Beats Sound System) and Charlie Maclean. Read more on Last.fm.
