Lineage Lyrics

I was six years old when I fell down on Spencer Avenue
It was my Aunt, Suzy's house, and I still can see the bruise
I remember Grand Daddy and even though I never sat on his knee
He taught me life is culture, babyMy Uncle David, they call him Jello, the only man that could say hello
And it sound like angels singing in your ears
And even though they all passed away, I still long for their company
And I wonder God, why couldn't they staySo I gotta remember, though I'm young
That my time will surely come
And now I gotta try to keep it together
As I watch my family pass me bySo remember, so remember, so remember
So remember, so remember, so remember
So remember, remember, remember
So remember, so remember, so remember your familyI was twelve years old when my Uncle Andrew had got sick
And jaundice turn to HIV and then his body quit
It was strange the numbness I felt, watching him all dressed in black
Wasn't thinking about what he gave up but about all that I lackedSo I gotta believe, that if I give
I can live through eternity
And I gotta know, if I don't share myself

Know one will everSo remember, so remember, so remember
So remember, so remember, so remember
So remember, remember, remember
So remember, so remember, so remember your family
RememberSo remember, so remember, so remember
So remember, so remember, so remember
So remember, remember, remember
So remember, so remember, so remember your familyI always, remember what my Mama told me
I always, always take the bitter with the sweet
I always, remember what Auntie taught me
I always, even when it's hard be a lady, babyI always, remember what Grand Daddy said
I always, you got to lay in the bed you make
I always, remember what my Uncle taught me
I always, don't give up when it gets hard keep pushing, babyAnd you got to, remember everything they taught you
And you got to, hold on what is true
And you got to, never forget where you coming from
And you got to, and you got to, and rememberRemember, remember, I said one more time, rememberSo remember, so remember, so remember
So remember, so remember, so remember
So remember, remember, remember
So remember, so remember, so remember your familyYou've got to [Incomprehensible] remember your family
Hold on to your dreams [Incomprehensible]So remember, so remember, so remember
So remember, so remember, so remember
So remember, remember, remember
So remember, so remember, so remember your familyNever let it go, yeah
Oh no, oh no
You've got to, you've got to, you've got to remember

Artists take on pseudonyms for a multitude of reasons, but in Zach Saginaw’s case, those reasons run deeper than most. Zach records under the name Shigeto. It’s his middle name; it’s also his grandfather’s name, a tribute to the Japanese branch of Zach’s family tree. Shigeto also means “to grow bigger”—appropriate, given Zach’s premature birth-weight of less than a pound. Today, Shigeto stands for Zach’s vividly beautiful electronic music.
