Liquid Lives Lyrics

Here's a story about a bloke named Jerry
Got slaughtered then got real lairy
In the club he acted absurd
Then came on to a boxers birdSo he got knocked out
His face swelled up like a rainbow trout
His girl found out the truth
But he couldn't explain 'cause he lost a toothI wanna drink, drink, drink, smoke, fuck, fight
I wanna shout and scream, I wanna die
I wanna be arrested, I wanna be molested
And I've damaged my brain
Next weekend let's do it againAn anecdote 'bout a man named Clive
Wasn't one to usually drink drive
But after all he'd been for a snack
His local's a bit far to walk backA month later and he's sitting in court
For the two lives he cut short
Man slaughter he's convicted
For the pain that he inflictedSpinning, my head is spinning up around, around
And down to the pub, on to the club

My stomach's turning, oh, my body's burning
Our liquid lives, this is how we all surviveHere's a story about a chap named Garth
Drank 4 pints in hour and a half
Though the night had just begun
'Cause his local pub was open till oneThe next morning out in the country
Hung over and on the hunt he
Was still drunk and pissed himself
Fell off his horse and shot himself!Spinning, my head is spinning up around, around
And down to the pub, on to the club
My stomach's turning, oh, my body's burning
Our liquid lives, this is how we all surviveCome on drink, come on drink, come on drinkOur liquid lives
Our liquid lives
Our liquid lives
Our liquid livesOur liquid lives
Our liquid lives
Our liquid lives
Our liquid livesDrink, smoke, fuck, fight
Our liquid lives
Our liquid lives
Our liquid lives
This is how we all surviveHere's a story about a girl named Kate
Got wasted then got date raped
When they told the doctors she'd seenThey found no chemicals was in her bloodstream
''Well nothing malicious but the alcohol levels were suspicious''
When asked who had hurt her, poor old Kate couldn't rememberSpinning, my head is spinning up around, around
And down to the pub, on to the club
My stomach's turning, oh, my body's burning
Our liquid lives, this is how we all surviveDrink, smoke, fuck, fight
Our liquid lives
Our liquid lives
Our liquid lives
This is how we all survive

Hadouken! are a band formed in 2006 at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom by vocalist James Smith (born 1985) and guitarist Daniel "Pilau" Rice (born 1986). Many different terms have been applied to them to describe their style, including new rave, dance-punk, indie, grime, electronic and hardcore. After forming their own record label, Surface Noise Records, in February 2006 Smith began writing and demoing the first Hadouken! tracks. The band was formed in October 2006 with Daniel Rice’s brother, drummer Nick Rice (born 1988) and James Smith's girlfriend Alice Spooner who plays synths. In December 2006 they added bassist Chris Purcell (born 1986) to their lineup. Nick Rice's brother Steve Rice was originally the band's drummer, though pulled out after two weeks.

In February 2007 the band released their first record, a two song vinyl with the song "That Boy That Girl", which gained mainstream popularity after the video, directed by friend Bob Harlow, made it onto MTV2. Shortly after the video, the band added bassist Chris Purcell. After releasing their 12-track mixtape "Not Here To Please You" on November 12, 2007 featuring originals and remixes, the band returned to the studio to complete their debut album Music for an Accelerated Culture. This featured nine new songs as well as the single "Liquid Lives" and was released on May 5th 2008. It achieved reasonable success reaching 12th in the UK album charts.

In mid-2009, the band recorded their second studio album, For The Masses, in Holland with drum and bass producers Noisia. The band described the new album as being different, both lyrically and musically. The album was released on February 25th 2010 and did not have the same success as their debut album, receiving generally poor reviews from critics and reaching 19th in the UK album charts.

Songfacts reports that "Parasite" is the band's first single after signing with independent label Ministry of Sound. Zane Lowe premiered the song on April 12, 2012 during his BBC Radio 1 show.

The band’s name is a reference to a special move called "the Hadouken" (surge fist) from the Street Fighter video game franchise where the player throws a fireball at their opponent. The video game references extend into their music which includes sound effects from Nintendo Game Boy titles.
