Living on the Run Lyrics

By: David Allan Coe and Jimmy HowardSEEMS LIKE IT'S RAINING' HARDER TODAY
THE RAIN MUST OF KNOWN I WAS COMING' THIS WAY
IT AIN'T EASY LIVING ON THE RUN
IF I PICK UP MY STEP AND PULL MY BELT DOWN TIGHT
I CAN MAKE IT TO THE BORDER BY SATURDAY NIGHT
AND IT'S LONELY LIVING ON THE RUNI KILLED ME A WOMAN IN TENNESSEE
I JUST BROKE JAIL AND THEY'RE GUNNING' FOR ME
I'M ON THE RUN, LIVING ON THE RUN
I'M ON THE RUN, LIVING ON THE RUNMY WOMAN WANTED MORE THAN A MAN COULD STEAL
FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE DECKS WHERE I LEARNED TO DEAL
AND IT GOT ME LIVING ON THE RUN
WOMEN LOVE AN OUTLAW I HEARD FOLKS SAY
AND I'LL BE AN OUTLAW TILL MY DYING DAY
CAUSE IT GOT ME LIVING ON THE RUN

A life-long renegade, singer/songwriter David Allan Coe is one of the most colorful and unpredictable characters in country music history. One of the pioneering artists of the outlaw country movement of the '70s, he hasn't had many big hits — only three of his singles hit the Top Ten — but he has been among the biggest cult figures in country music throughout his career. Born in Akron, OH, Coe first got into trouble with the law at age nine. As a result, he was sent to reform school.
