Louisiana 1927 Lyrics

What has happened down here is the wind have changed
Clouds rolled in from the north and it started to rain
It rained real hard and it rained for a real long time
Six feet of water in the streets of EvangelineThe river rose all day, the river rose all night
Some people got lost in the flood, some people got away alright
The river had busted through clear down to Plaquemine
Six feet of water in the streets of EvangelineLouisiana, Louisiana
They're trying to wash us away, they're trying to wash us away
Oh, Louisiana, Louisiana
They're trying to wash us away, they're trying to wash us awayPresident Coolidge come down in a railroad train
Little fat man with a notepad in his hand
President say, "Little fat man, oh, isn't it a shame
What the river have done to this poor farmer's land"Oh, Louisiana, Louisiana
You're trying to wash us away, you're trying to wash us away
Oh, Louisiana, oh Lord, oh Louisiana
They're trying to wash us away, oh Lord, they're trying to wash us away
They're trying to wash us away, they're trying to wash us away

It doesn’t often happen, and that’s putting it mildly. When was the last time a bundle of youthful energy, polished musicianship and originality like Tipitina landed on the mat unannounced? It’s quite disconcerting. ‘Where did this suddenly come from?’ you ask. The prosaic reply is Preston, Lancs, but the real answer is New Orleans and a few other hot spots along the way; from juke joints and dance halls, warm nights and windy streets, good times remembered and a few bad moments best forgotten.
