Lover Lover Lover Lyrics

I asked my father
I said, "Father, change my name"
The one I'm using now, it's covered up
With fear and filth and cowardice and shameAh, but, lover, lover, lover, lover
Lover, lover, lover, come back to me
Yes and lover, lover, lover, lover
Lover, lover, lover, come back to meHe said, "I locked you in this body
I meant it as a kind of trial
You can use it for a weapon
Or to make a woman smile"Ah, but, lover, lover, lover, lover
Lover, lover, lover, come back to me
Yes and lover, lover, lover, lover
Lover, lover, lover, come back to me"Then let me start again," I cried
Oh, please let me start again
I want a face that's fair this time
I want a spirit that is calmAh, but, lover, lover, lover, lover
Lover, lover, lover, come back to me
Yes and lover, lover, lover, lover

Lover, lover, lover, come back to me"I never turned aside," I said
Oh, I, I never ever walked away
It was you who built the temple
It was you who covered up my faceAh, but, lover, lover, lover, lover
Lover, lover, lover, come back to me
Yes and lover, lover, lover, lover
Lover, lover, lover, come back to meYou may come to me in happiness
Or you may come to me in grief
You may come to me in your deepest faith
Or you may come in disbeliefAh, but, lover, lover, lover, lover
Lover, lover, lover, come back to me, oh
Yes and lover, lover, lover, lover
Lover, lover, lover, come back to meAnd may the spirit of this song
May it rise up, pure and free
May it be a shield for all of you
A shield against the enemyAh, but, lover, lover, lover, lover
Lover, lover, lover, come back to me
Yes and lover, lover, lover, lover
Lover, lover, lover, come back to meYes and lover, lover, lover, lover
Lover, lover, lover, come back to me, oh
Yes and lover, lover, lover, lover
Lover, lover, lover, come back to me

Echo & the Bunnymen are an English post-punk band, formed in Liverpool in 1978. The original line-up consisted of vocalist Ian McCulloch, guitarist Will Sergeant and bass player Les Pattinson, supplemented by a drum machine. By 1980, Pete de Freitas had joined as the band's drummer, and their debut album, Crocodiles, met with critical acclaim and made the UK Top 20. Their second album, Heaven Up Here (1981), again found favour with the critics and reached number 10 in the UK Album chart.
