Luv Is A Verb Lyrics

(Take this [unverified] for a ride)
Boom! Burn! Bip! Yeah! Pow! Hey, ha ha
Down with the DC Talk, d-d-down with the DC Talk
Are you down with the DC Talk, d-d-down with the DC Talk
Pullin' out my big black book
'Cause when I need a word defined that's where I look
So I move to the L's quick, fast, in a hurry
Threw on my specs, thought my vision was blurry
I looked again but to my dismay
It was black and white with no room for gray
Ya see, a big V stood beyond my word
And yo that's when it hit me, that luv is a verb
Words come easy but don't mean much
When the words they're sayin' we can't put trust in
We're talkin' 'bout love in a different light
And if we all learn to love it would be just right
Hey, tell me, haven't ya heard? Luv is a serious word
Hey, I think it's time ya learned

I don't care what they say, I don't care care what ya heard
The word luv, luv is a verb
Down with the DC Talk, d-d-down with the DC Talk
Are you down with the DC Talk, d-d-down with the DC Talk
Thinkin' of a way to explain-O
'Cause ya' know when I'm flowin' like a bottle of Drain-O
Simple and plain, L O V E, ain't all that junk that ya see on TV
Put soaps on a rope 'cause they ain't worth copin' with
It's a myth that there ain't no hope
And luv is enough if it's unconditionally givin'
Now you're living out the Great Commission
Words come easy but don't mean much
When the words they're sayin' we can't put trust in
We're talkin' 'bout love in a different light
And if we all learn to love it would be just right
Hey, tell me, haven't ya heard? Luv is a serious word
Hey, I think it's time ya learned
I don't care what they say, I don't care care what ya heard
The word luv, luv is a verb
Back in the day, there was a man
Who stepped out of Heaven and he walked the land
He delivered to the people an eternal choice
With a heart full of luv and the truth in His voice
Gave up His life so that we may live
How much more luv could the Son of God give?
Here is the example that we oughta be matchin'
'Cause luv is a word that requires some action
Words come easy but don't mean much
When the words they're sayin' we can't put trust in
We're talkin' 'bout love in a different light
And if we all learn to love it would be just right
Hey, tell me, haven't ya heard? Luv is a serious word
Hey, I think it's time ya learned
I don't care what they say, I don't care care what ya heard
The word luv, luv is a verb
Hey, tell me, haven't ya heard? Luv is a serious word
Hey, I think it's time ya learned
I don't care what they say, I don't care care what ya heard
The word luv, luv is a verb
Hey, tell me, haven't ya heard? Luv is a serious word
Hey, I think it's time ya learned
I don't care what they say, I don't care care what ya heard
The word luv, luv is a verb
Hey, tell me, haven't ya heard? Luv is a serious word
Hey, I think it's time ya learned
I don't care what they say, I don't care care what ya heard
The word luv, luv is a verb

dc Talk is made up of Toby McKeehan (TobyMac), Michael Tait, and Kevin Max.

The three met while they were young men at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. They formed the band dc Talk (a reference to Washington D.C., but later marketed as 'decent Christian talk' by their label) and, as of the year 2000, spent twelve solid years together, performing all over the world, recording 6 albums, and earning many awards, including 4 Grammy awards.

Their music, aimed at a younger audience, combined hip-hop, rap, and R&B sensibilities and filled a gap in 1980s Christian Music and gave them a unique niche. Their first three albums, dc Talk, Nu Thang, and Free At Last started from their rap/hip-hop roots but increasingly included melodic vocal rock influences. Their 1995 studio album, Jesus Freak, continued this musical evolution by eshewing almost all rap elements and adopting a harder modern rock/grunge sound on many songs, especially the title track. Their most recent studio album, Supernatural, draws on their previous efforts while moving towards mainstream pop stylings.

Their signature sound in all albums is their use of the three members' different vocal skills separately and together. They are often lauded for their lyrical sophistication, addressing many themes in Christian theology, faith, and practice.

After more than ten years together as a group, they are taking a break in recording together to pursue their own activities outside of the band, and launch solo careers in recording music. Michael Tait formed his own band, Tait, and has most recently served as the frontman for Newsboys. Toby McKeehan has released music under the name TobyMac, and has been the most sucessful of the three. Kevin Max has released two solo albums of his own.
