Ann Cook (St. Francisville, Louisiana, May 10, 1903 - September 29, 1962) was a popular blues singer in the 1930s and 40s, also known as 'Bad Ann'. Her best known recordings included "Mamma Cookie's Blues" and "Barrel House Blues".

Apparently aware of her youthful reputation as a hot-tempered individual who was "prone to violence (murder on down)," some of the accompanying musicians are said to have been afraid in the presence of Ann Cook. By 1949, she had renounced the blues as a sinful world and went into gospel music, reading scriptures to songs such as "The Lord Will Make A Way" with Wooden Joe Nicholas.
She died of a heart attack at age 58, in New, Orleans, Louisiana. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
