Marilyn Lyrics

Marilyn Monroe didn't marry Henry Miller
Marilyn Monroe didn't marry Henry Miller
Marilyn Monroe didn't marry Henry Miller
Marilyn Monroe didn't marry Henry MillerBut if she did, he'd have taken her to Paris
And if she did, she'd have smoked a lot of opium
And if she did, she'd have dyed her hair blue
And if she did, she might be aliveOh ohh, Henry Miller
Oh ohh, Marilyn Monroe
Oh ohh, Henry Miller
Oh ohh, Marilyn MonroeMarilyn Monroe didn't marry Henry Miller
She lived outside the Tropic of Capricorn
Marilyn Monroe didn't marry Henry Miller
I don't even know if she knew Henry MillerBut if she did, he'd have taken her to Paris
And if she did, they'd have fucked every day
And if she did, she'd have felt like a woman
Not like a photograph in a magazineOh ohh, Henry Miller
Oh ohh, Marilyn MonroeThis is not a knock against Arthur Miller
Death of a Salesman is my favorite play

But Marilyn Monroe should have married Henry Miller
And if she did, she might be alive'Cause if she did, he'd have taken her to Paris
Tied her to the bed and eaten dinner off of her
And okay maybe she'd have died the same, anyway
But if she did she'd have had more funOh ohh, Henry Miller
Oh ohh, Marilyn Monroe
Oh ohh, Henry Miller
Oh ohh, Marilyn Monroe

Dan Bern (aka Bernstein, a name under which he sometimes performs) is a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and painter. His music is often compared to that of Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello. His song "Talkin' Woody, Bob, Bruce, and Dan Blues," from the album Smartie Mine, offers a joking take on this influence, presented in the style of a Guthrie or Dylan talking blues song, and containing a spoof of a Dylan song as well. Bernstein has also toured with Ani DiFranco.
