Never Get Away From Me (for Waylon And Jessi) Lyrics

I was a real Casanova in my home town
Never really thought about settlin' down
That is until you came around
Yeah, it's been a few years but I remember it well
I was a rowdy no-gooder, you were hotter than hell
I spent all my time hot on your trail
You could've run to the mountains
Could've sailed across the deep blue sea
I knew from the start
I couldn't let you get away from me
Well, your mama and your daddy, they didn't approve
They told me I was trash and I was born to lose
But that didn't faze me, I was gonna have you
So, I begged and I pleaded something I'd never done
As sure as tomorrow has a rising sun
There was no mistake, honey, you were the one
You could've run to the mountains
Could've sailed across the deep blue sea

But one thing's for sure
You would never get away from me
The sweetest things in life take you by surprise
Like the heaven I see lookin' in your eyes
Though you weren't sure how an outlaw's love could be
I made up my mind not to let you get away from me
As we get a little closer to our rocking chairs
I think back on the good life that we have shared
And how our love has grown down through the years
So snuggle up to me baby, turn out the lights
There's nowhere on this earth I'd rather be tonight
Than lying in your arms, holdin' you tight
As time rolls by one thing's still clear to see
I'd have been a fool to let you get away from me
Yeah, yeah
You could've run to the mountains
Could've sailed across the deep blue sea
But I'd have been a fool to let you get away from me

James Travis Tritt (born February 9, 1963) is an American country music singer. He now resides in Hiram, Georgia off Travis Tritt Highway.

Tritt was born in Marietta, Georgia to James and Gwen Tritt. At age 3, he received his first guitar from his father. By 22, he had been through two divorces and had committed himself entirely to his music career. He has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1992. Today, he and wife Theresa have three children: Tyler Reese (born February 18, 1998), Tristan James (born June 16, 1999) and Terian Nathaniel (born November 20, 2003).

His breakthrough came with his first album, Country Club, from which three singles were released, as well as his first No. 1 hit with "Help Me Hold On". His second album, It's All About To Change, produced two top 3 hits including: "Anymore", "The Whiskey Ain't Workin'", and "Here's A Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares)". The song "Bible Belt" was used in the movie, My Cousin Vinny, and, for which, he composed alternate lyrics exclusively for the use of the film.

Tritt has released a trilogy of music videos describing the tale of two paralyzed war veterans: Mac Singleton and his friend Al. In the video for "Tell Me I was Dreaming", Tritt plays Singleton, a wheelchair bound veteran who tries to rescue his pregnant wife Annie from slipping off a boat, subsequently hitting her head on the side of the dock. She dies, but their baby, Annie, survives. The third video shows what happened with Singleton and his daughter after the second video.

Tritt's latest album, My Honky Tonk History, showcases a wide range of styles, from love ballads to energetic footstompers.
