Next Step Lyrics

(hall, stewart, wolk, baker)I wanna go up where something matters
I wanna blow up where matter scatters
I wanna live into the future
I want to give... more girlNext step
No side stepping this time
Cross over life on the line
One thing to talk big
Go to follow thru
All set
Got to get past the present too
Don't want to reach out for yesterday
Don't want to block the shock of the new
I wanna see what new love will bring
I'm gonna give all that love to youWhat's the next step
My mind is open wide
Next step
What'll be the next step baby
What's the next step

I'm finished with the past
Next step
Won't be the last step babyYou wanna wake up with me beside you
You wanna shake off bad thoughts inside you
We're gonna walk on into tomorrow
We're gonna have more fun now
Don't look around for yesterday
No blocking out the shock of the new
Do you wanna see what new love can bring
I'm gonna give all that love to youWhat's the next step
My mind is open wide
Next step
What'll be the next step baby
What's the next step
I haven't got a clue
Next step
Wanna make the next step with you
What's the next step
Gonna take it gonna take it
Next step
Gonna step right
Won't step back
What's the next step
No bad songs
No bad songs
Next step
Say hey
Don't you want to take the next step
Ring out the old
Ring in the new
Never know 'til I do what I'm gonna do
Say hey
I want to take the next step
Say heyWhat's the next step
My mind is open wide
What'll be the next step baby
Next step
What's the next step
Ain't gonna be the last
Next step
Forget about the past
What's the next stepWe've got to open up
When the next step comes along
I've got to follow thru
Take the next step with you
I wanna ring out the old and ring in the new
Come out of the cold
Take a step with you

His mother played songs by Frank Sinatra to him as a child, and he later became a fan of Motown and other R&B/soul music. He took piano lessons as a child, but he did not like them. He would skip the lessons and ride his bicycle across the bridge from his grandfather's farm over to the heart of the black "Chicken Hill" ghetto, where he could just listen and absorb the music.

In the 1960s, Hall attended Temple University, but did not graduate, preferring instead to spend his time singing on the street corners and play with various musicians and groups. At that time, Daryl Hohl (as he was called then) sang backup for different bands. He eventually changed his last name to Hall. Daryl Hall idolized the Temptations and began to perform session work as a singer. He first met John Oates at a band competition.

After John transferred to a different school, Daryl joined the band Gulliver, which released one eponymous album in 1969 before being dropped from their label.

Daryl is the host of the wildly popular online show entitled "Live From Daryl's House", where Daryl and the band collaborate with artists from various musical genres on the 15th of each month. The first episode aired in 2007, and it's still going strong. Best of all, it's free to watch.
