One Evening Lyrics

The evening was long, my guesses were true
You saw me, see you
That something you said, the timing was right
The pleasure was mine
The time and the place, the look on your face
Sincerest of eyes
If you're ready or not, the state of our hearts
There's no time to take
When we started both broken hearted
Not believin', it could begin and end in one evenin'
Pa-pa-pa-pa
Pa-pa-pa
Pa-pa-pa
Pa-pa-pa-pa
Pa-pa-pa
Pa-pa-pa
We were caught by the light
Held on to the day till it became hours

The minutes went by, the cab is outside
There's no time to take
When we parted, movin' on
And believin', it could begin and end in one evenin'
When we started both brokenhearted
Not believin', it could begin and end in one evenin'
When we parted, movin' on
And believin', it could begin and end in one evenin'
Pa-pa-pa-pa
Pa-pa-pa
Pa-pa-pa
Pa-pa-pa-pa
Pa-pa-pa
Pa-pa-pa

James Andrew (Jimmy) Rushing (August 26, 1901 - June 8, 1972) was an American blues shouter from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He joined Walter Page's Blue Devils in 1927, then joined Bennie Moten's band in 1929. He stayed with the successor Count Basie band when Moten died in 1935. When the Basie band broke up in 1950 he briefly retired, then formed his own group. His build earned him a nickname and a signature song, "Mr. Five by Five" ("he's five feet tall and he's five feet wide").
