Quicksand Lyrics

When I bring it up
You shut me out
So I keep on writin' letters to myself
Are you doin' alright?
Are you burnin' out?
Are you happy with the way it turned out?
Runnin' out of you
Runnin' out of you
And I know you'll be runnin' out of me
While you're holdin' up
Are you caving in?
Are you happy with the way things have been?
Runnin' out of you
Runnin' out of you
And I know you'll be runnin' out of me
When it starts sinking in
Like quicksand, I can't stand
Watchin' the best of me

Go down with the worst of
When it starts sinking in
Like quicksand, I can't stand
Watchin' the best of me
Go down with the worst of
Now are you doin' alright?
(Alright)
Are you burnin' out?
Are you happy with the way things turned out?
Runnin' out of you
Runnin' out of you
And I know you'd be runnin' out of me
Ya
Runnin' out of you
I'm runnin' out of you
And I know you'd be runnin' out of me

With the careful first steps of “Duet” Shotgun Jimmie’s sophomore solo effort, The Onlys, lurches to life with hushed tones and echoing drums. Throughout the rest of the album’s thirteen songs, melodies build and fall into the arms of warm guitars and organic rhythms.

A founding member of perennial underdogs Shotgun & Jaybird, Jimmie has spent the last four years co-fronting the band from Dawson City to the greener pastures of Sackville, NB. After signing to the renowned Sappy Records in 2006, the group quickly developed a devout national following with the successive releases of their EP There Are Days and There Are Days and LP Trying To Get Somewhere.

Now bravely standing on his own for the first time since 2004’s The 6,000 True Stories of Love, Shotgun Jimmie presents the glowing results of a summer spent in seclusion, writing and recording in the parlor of Marshwinds Farm. From the clamoring guitar attack of “Sparkelution” to wilting final notes of “Warbler Song,” The Onlys instills a mixture equal parts early 90’s indie-rock and late 60’s Americana.

Following a sold-out tour launch show in Sackville, NB earlier this October, Shotgun Jimmie embarked on a string of Eastern Canadian dates with Baby Eagle and Construction Destruction, including an acclaimed set at the 2007 The Halifax Pop Explosion. Jimmie recently shot a video for the first single from The Onlys, “Bedhead” which will be released in the coming weeks. Read more on Last.fm.
