Radio Lyrics

I remember shoot outs over necklaces
Little Debbie breakfasts
An' it's growin' up in the projects, life stinksDrinkin' fifths of Hennessey
To forget my misery
Strugglin' out here in these streetsBarely livin' in this world
It's seems so hateful
The kids are so ungrateful
And I'm no longer able to disguise my disgustAnd I know they're sayin' we should trust
The Lord will come and help us
And maybe I'm just being selfish
But I've had enoughBut when my song comes on the radio
I forget all of my troubles
And for one moment I'm not there at all
No matter where in my life I am, that's my jamSaid when my song comes on the radio
I forget all of my troubles
And for one moment I'm not there at all
No matter where in my life I am that's my jamI remember fightin' with my babysitter
Life without no father figure

Searchin' for my daddy's killer, life stinksWorkin' jobs that I don't like
Cussin' out God every night
For givin' me this awful lifeAnd it don't stop 'cos this world
It's just so hateful
The kids are so ungrateful
And I'm no longer able to disguise my disgustAnd I know they say we should trust
The Lord will come and help us
And maybe I'm just being selfish
But I've had enoughWhen my song comes on the radio
I forget all of my troubles
And for one moment I'm not there at all
No matter where in my life I am, that's my jamSaid when my song comes on the radio
I forget all of my troubles
And for one moment I'm not there at all
No matter where in my life I am, that's my jam
That's my jamYo, I done been in a lot of street fights
Got a hood stripes but I ain't immune to pain
Whether you are seventeen, black or white
Gay, straight or a lesbianWe all go through the same thing on one level or another
You never had a dad, had a part time mother
Had a good girl but she was too gutter
Mommie got a man now but you still love herSome things just fall apart
Like some words break your heart
Even if you don't admit it sometimes in the back of your mind
You really want to fall down and cry and never get upBut you gotta get up 'cos you gotta pay bills
Even though you feel like a loser
But you ain't a loser
You God's child and can't nothin' move yaWhen my song comes on the radio
I forget all of my troubles
For one moment I'm not there at all
No matter where in my life I am, that's my jam
That's my jamWhen my song comes on the radio
I forget all of my troubles
Oh, no matter where in my life I am, that's my jam

Lyfe Jennings (born Chester Jennings in Toledo, Ohio) is an African American R&B and soul singer-songwriter, record producer, and instrumentalist. He plays the guitar, bass, and piano which he integrates into his music.

Jennings began singing at a young age in a Toledo church choir. He later joined a group called The Dotsons with two of his cousins and his older brother, Jay. The group separated in the early 1990s, and Jennings rediscovered music and started a music program at an Ohio prison where he was serving a ten-year sentence on an arson-related charge. He has cited Erykah Badu's 1997 album Baduizm as one of the reasons for his rediscovery. Jennings was released from prison in December 2002 and started to pursue a solo career in music. In January 2003, he performed in Harlem at the Showtime at The Apollo. The same year, he also independently released his first EP, What Is Love. To further pursue his career, Jennings moved to New York City where he performed at rapper Nelly's concert at Radio City Music Hall, at an NAACP convention where he performed an original song called "Thank God for the NAACP", and at the Cafeteria in Chelsea, Manhattan during the blackout on August 14. He signed with Columbia Records and released his debut album Lyfe 268-192 (268-192 was his inmate number) in August 2004. His first single was Stick Up Kid, which didn't see much sucess until after the album was released. The album featured his hit single "Must Be Nice". Jennings' second album The Phoenix was released in August 2006. The first single, "S.E.X.", feautures Jennings' protégé, singer LaLa Brown.
