Sense of Purpose Lyrics

Science has no soul
Science has no conscience
We are not fuel
We are not consequences
Unseen invisible ghost in a machine
No need for thought
Science is divineWe cannot lose control
We cannot play at God
We cannot play at GodWe were chosen, thought we were good
But our job possessed us, and drank our blood
Science has no soul
Science has no conscience
We are not fuel
We are not consequencesUnseen ghost in a machine
No need for thought
Science is divineScience is the hunter
Science is the beast
Impersonating angels

Short cut to hellUnseen ghost in a machine
No need for thought
Science is divine

The Pop Group were a post-punk band which formed in 1978 in Bristol, England. They consisted of Mark Stewart (vocals), John Waddington (guitar), Gareth Sager (guitar), Simon Underwood (bass) and Bruce Smith (drums). Their uncompromising, dissonant sound spanned punk, free jazz, funk and dub music. Their lyrics were, more often than not, politically charged. In '79 they issued their debut single, "She Is Beyond Good and Evil" on the Radar label.
