S'il a permis au funana de se faire connaître, il serait erroné de croire que Bulimundo n'est "qu'un" groupe de funana. En réalité, son leader charismatique, Carlos Martins, dit Katchas s'est intéressé à toutes les musiques ou traditions musicales du monde rural de l'île de Santiago, à savoir le funana, le batuque ainsi que la tabanka. Et le groupe a aussi enregistré des mornas et des coladeiras, et Katchas en composait au sein de Broda, sa première formation.
