Shallow River Lyrics

Red sky morning, lover's warning
Oh I know that the promise you wear, well it ain't for me.
Shallow river shining within her
Flood it all, drown the crops, but just please don't swallow me.Settle down (settle, settle, settle)
Oh, dear heart, be still, be still.May the whole sky fall,
May it all come down.
Waste it all for the title, waste it all for the crownKeep your distance, make resistance
Stay the course when you falter, and don't you think of me.
Glowing ember, growing within her
Burn it all, raze the field, but just please don't swallow me.May the whole sky fall,
May it all come down.
Waste it all for the truth, for the fool in her wedding gown.
Let her leave my sight,
Make her leave my mind
Bring it down on my head if these sins are mine.
Call it down on my head if these sins are mine.Settle down (settle, settle, settle)
Oh, dear heart, be still, be still.
Let her go (settle, settle, settle)

Oh, dear heart, be still, be still.Lovely lady, no one's baby -
Keep your chains off the ground and don't you think of me.

Destiny itself assembled the Crane Wives, and now they seek only to make music worthy of destiny. That, and act as silly as humanly possible. "The Crane Wife is an old Japanese tale. While there are many variations of the tale, a common version is that a poor man finds an injured crane on his doorstep (or outside with an arrow in it), takes it in and nurses it back to health. After he releases the crane, a woman appears at his doorstep with whom he falls in love and marries.
