She Got Kids Lyrics

Yeah, I mean I know what you talkin' about, brother
So let me tell himI know a lot of women gonna hate it
But, somebodys gotta say it
And so I nominated myself to deliver the news
That it's hard for a man to choose a lady that already got a babyAlthough his feelings may be strong
Having kids that dont belong to him
Holdin' on to him, somehow seems wrong to him
Exposing them to a man who may one day decide
Hes tired of the family lifeNow hes gotta tell that little girl a 'goodbye lie'
When hes the only Dad shes ever had in her life
And I dont wanna take that chance, please dont take offense
Its just the thought of hurting somebody that was innocentShe got kids, dont know if Im ready to give
Them the things that they need to live
Cause if we become more than just friends
What I do for her, I gotta do for them kids
And I just wanna make sure this is more than just a sexual trip
All I wanna do is prevent those kids from gettin' hurt again, yeahNow most men think it but theyll never say it
But what if yall had another baby

And hes accused of choosing favorites, and theyre right
Would he be wrong for lovin' his own flesh and blood a little more?
Is he being human or only being immature? Whos to say?Thats why its better just to wait, take love day to day
And let love spread its own wings
If it wants to fly away or if it decides to stay
It won't be because of any unrealistic expectations, yall done madeAnd he won't have to pray that little girl ain't awake
When he tiptoe out the door, so he wont have to explain
I dont wanna take that chance, please, dont take offense
Just dont need that kinda drama on my conscienceShe got kids, dont know if Im ready to give
Them the things that they need to live
Cause if we become more than just friends
What I do for her, I gotta do for them kids
And I just wanna make sure this is more than just a sexual trip
All I wanna do is prevent those kids from gettin' hurt againBut then, even though when I see God cares
After all the, you know, bein' concerned and all the worryin'
I just realized that you know, I had [Incomprehensible] finished for
And I just can't see her bein' with nobody else, I just can't

Lyfe Jennings (born Chester Jennings in Toledo, Ohio) is an African American R&B and soul singer-songwriter, record producer, and instrumentalist. He plays the guitar, bass, and piano which he integrates into his music.

Jennings began singing at a young age in a Toledo church choir. He later joined a group called The Dotsons with two of his cousins and his older brother, Jay. The group separated in the early 1990s, and Jennings rediscovered music and started a music program at an Ohio prison where he was serving a ten-year sentence on an arson-related charge. He has cited Erykah Badu's 1997 album Baduizm as one of the reasons for his rediscovery. Jennings was released from prison in December 2002 and started to pursue a solo career in music. In January 2003, he performed in Harlem at the Showtime at The Apollo. The same year, he also independently released his first EP, What Is Love. To further pursue his career, Jennings moved to New York City where he performed at rapper Nelly's concert at Radio City Music Hall, at an NAACP convention where he performed an original song called "Thank God for the NAACP", and at the Cafeteria in Chelsea, Manhattan during the blackout on August 14. He signed with Columbia Records and released his debut album Lyfe 268-192 (268-192 was his inmate number) in August 2004. His first single was Stick Up Kid, which didn't see much sucess until after the album was released. The album featured his hit single "Must Be Nice". Jennings' second album The Phoenix was released in August 2006. The first single, "S.E.X.", feautures Jennings' protégé, singer LaLa Brown.
