Somebody's Home Lyrics

It's raining in my house tonight
Roof's leaking everywhere
It's overflowing buckets
And pouring down the stairsTaking spins around the hallway
Then rambling out the door
Out across the highway
And down the empty pierThen deep into the river
The water it does fall
I hear the river rising
As I listen through my wallAnd every time it rains
And every time I cry
It's just another current
In that river flowing bySomebody's home
Though you ache and feel alone
Someone you've always known
Somebody's homeThere's a fire in my house tonight
It's climbing up the stairs
It's tearing through my photographs

And choking off the airAnd now the walls are burning too
And the roof is crashing in
And finally there's only flames
Where once my house had beenAs embers fall the flame take off
In spirals to the sky
Then turn into the blazing stars
That through the heavens flyAnd though I mourn my own four walls
I try to understand
I can see my wooden house
In the ashes in my handSomebody's home
Though you ache and feel alone
Someone you've always known
Somebody's homeSomebody's home
Though you ache and feel alone
Someone you've always known
Somebody's homeSomebody's home
Somebody's home
Somebody's home
Somebody's home
Somebody's home
Somebody's home
Somebody's home
Somebody's home

Lucy Kaplansky (born 1960) is a folk musician. Originally from Chicago, at the age of 18 she moved to New York City, where she became involved in the city's Greenwich Village folk music scene. In 1983, she decided to become a psychologist, enrolling in Yeshiva University. She continued playing music while completing her PhD, and began to have some success as part of a duo with Shawn Colvin. However, when they began to attract record company interest, Kaplansky declined, choosing instead to set up a private practice and become a staff psychologist at a New York hospital.
