Soundsystem (feat. Cherine Anderson) Lyrics

The sound of the weapon called a microphone
Bring the revolution on
Broadcasting till the early morn' and
Pirate radio rockin' it onRevolution on the dance floor
Tell me what you're fightin' for
Because this DJ gonna keep you alive
Forget about your troubles and your 9 to 5With the rhythm of the funk
The pump the bump, people have you arrive
From the place you left, trying to forget
All the things you sweatThe jobs, the bills, the phone, the spills
Somebody hand you a hand full o' pills
So you hold em up, pop 'em downYour head's like record going gonk a gonk
The beat keeps bumping pound for pound
And the whole wide world try to beat you downBut soundsystem, here's a warnin'
Soundsystem turn it on
And soundsystem microphone
And Babylon system soon come downSoundsystem, here's a warnin'
Soundsystem turn it on

And soundsystem microphone
And this system gonna rock this townDrug dealers teachers preachers
Are all believers, stock brokers
Law inforcers, late night cokers
Arms dealers, man stealersBig wheelers, three piece stealers
Also politicians
Ha, ha, everybody's on a mission
Choose your poison, girls, boys
All make your choiceAnd call the doctor
He ain't never on a vacation
Gonna send medication knows
You jonesion' disco addictionMainline, bass line
Show me what your working with
Show me what your workin' withSoundsystem, here's a warnin'
Soundsystem turn it on
And soundsystem microphone
And Babylon system soon come downAll night long from the day you're born
All night till the early morning
All night from your born
All night till the day you're goneAll night from the day you're born
All night to the early morning
All night from the day you're born
This system gonna rock this townBedroom putting on a uniform
Dialing the numbers on a xylophone
Starin' at the mirror, watching you transformin'Making sure they all know you alone
Rollin' up a twenty, gonna blow the horn
Late night ticket for the unicorn
Everybody looking for the same old pornoCould a DJ save or soul now?
Show me what your working with
Show me what your working withSoundsystem, here's a warnin'
Soundsystem turn it on
And soundsystem microphone
And Babylon system soon come down

Michael Franti is a gifted and much-heralded spoken word artist and political activist from San Francisco, CA. As leader of the politically and socially-charged group Spearhead, Franti is at the forefront of hip-hop's renaissance, expanding the music's boundaries as he draws on funk and soul-driven beats. Through his music and poetry, Franti tackles a range of issues--the criminal justice system, corporatization of our daily lives, AIDS, gay rights, homelessness, the death penalty, drug addiction and suicide.

His project Spearhead produced the critically acclaimed Home in 1990. The album contained his biggest single, "Hole in the Bucket," a thoughtful lament on the plight of the homeless, and "Positive," which addressed the growing AIDS epidemic. The album boasted adept funk samplings, sinuous guitar vamps, and soulful, melodic tracks about family and social injustice. 1997's Chocolate Supa Highway was not as pop-friendly as Home, but neither did its themes of kidnappings and police brutality lend themselves to such overt accessibility. Its mixture of harsher musical styles -- techno, rock, and funk -- was a step forward for Franti as his world view broadened and deepened. In 2001, Franti released Stay Human. In it he expresses his anger at the system, his advocacy of love, and his belief in freedom through individuality and self-expression through a set of songs that revolve around a fictitious death penalty case. In it, his embrace of the genres that inspired him is achieved with eloquence.

Earlier projects of Franti include The Beatnigs and The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy, which had more of an experimental/industrial sound, but addressed many of the same social/political issues.

As a celebration of the Election of Barack Obama Franti recorded the Obama Song, offered as a free track on downloaded at their offical website, www.michaelfranti.com/.
