Soundtrack To The Struggle Lyrics

[Lowkey Intro]It's been a long time coming
Too long, too long
It's been in the making a quarter century
But its here now, its here now
If by time you hear this album, I'm not here you know why
[Mavado Hook]Tell ya
So mi say
Too many suffering too many tears
To see a youth die I’m a know him for years
When me look around nobody care
The people Dem a live inna fear
The system need to change right now
To much you do could a inna grieve right now
I know si the bigger is a give right now
After ghetto people A no steep right now (Woo ooh! oi!)
The system need to change right now
To much you do could a inna grieve right now
I know si the bigger is a give right now

After ghetto people A no steep right now (yeah yeah!)
[VERSE 1]My music Is my natrual resource, now I want it back
Til I sever every single chain I will not relax
Just constant attack, til my world looks like Monserrat
Contact my comrades, for combat, what's concious rap
When you say the truth, they attack like a Sabertooth
Thinkin clear they make you disappear like you hate the fruit
We dont need more Boens, we dont need more Rebors, weed or Lyor Cohens
They tell us about terrorism and tell us about terrorists
Look up the definition and tell us what terror is
Only know the definition if the television tells us it
Public Enemy #1 they treat me like Professor Griff
This album has been in the making a quarter century
Born to bless the beat and rap over recorded melody
I knew the truth since I was a small little boy
I am a product of the system I was born to destroy
[Mavado Hook]Me can't believe I saw dem cheat people
And they fi protect and dem a leave people
I me no si no system fi di street people
Can't believe dem ah lead people
The system need to change right now
To much you do could a inna grieve right now
I know si the bigger is a give right now
After ghetto people A no steep right now (Woo ooh! oi!)
The system need to change right now
To much you do could a inna grieve right now
I know si the bigger is a give right now
After ghetto people A no steep right now (yeah yeah!)
[VERSE 2]On the news, they glorify their own henchmen
Support the troops, but won't mention Joe Glenton
It's funny cus the rappers are posing as the gangsters
While the government taking money as bonuses for bankers
In life you learn, to close your eyes and hold your tounge
But together we will overcome, there's never been a chosen one
Still tryna understand, the land I stand on
I'll probably die from cancer or ____
I will never give up, I will never just quit
I will never give in, I will never submit
The reason that I came, Is bleeding from the veins
Of the people cus we equal, only Freedom is the aim
[VERSE 3]If you're subordinate to corpoate guys supplying you orders
You're fighting fire with fire, Im fighting fire with water
When they kill me, I know I'll die with a focused mind
Plus there will be millions of me, ready to multiply
Dont just mention, acknowledge me, remember to honour me
My pen and this honesty, defendin equality
Decleared a republic, and ended your monarchy
Your corporate dictatorship, pretends It's democracy
I hold your bloodline, accountable for every crime
Adam Smith to Rothschild, It's all been a clever lie
Two choices now, revolution or genocide
But thanks to Rupert Murdoch neither one will be televised

Lowkey (born Kareem Dennis 23 May 1986) is a Poet, Playwright, Political Activist and award winning Hip Hop Artist of mixed British and Arab descent who has received airplay on numerous major radio stations including BBC Radio 1, 95.8 Capital FM, Kiss 100, Choice FM, BBC 1Xtra and BBC Asian Network and toured internationally, performing to crowds everywhere from Glastonbury and Trafalgar Square to Germany and Amsterdam.

Background

Lowkey was born to mixed heritage, his father being British from Dover, while his mother is an Iraqi born in Baghdad. He began attending the open mic sessions which took place at the Deal Real record shop on Carnaby Street, Central London. The first time he went he introduced himself as Lowkey and was told there was already a regular there by that name; the two had a battle rap over the use of the name which Lowkey won. It was at Deal Real that he met Doc Brown, who invited him to feature on his first notable single 'Donnie's Lament', a song which was based on the film Donnie Darko.

Career

The success of 'Donnie's Lament (Mad World Remix)', which was played on Capital FM and Radio One led to a mixtape entitled Key To The Game Vol 1, released independently in 2003. Within a year and a half he had released a second and third volume, all of which gained critical acclaim from UK hip hop circles. Despite releasing the third mixtape in 2005, it would be another three years until he released his album proper preferring instead to explore other aspects of his career until then.

In July 2008 the Theatre Royal, Bath put on a production of 'Max and Beth', a contemporary adaptation of Macbeth by William Shakespeare written entirely in rhyme.

Collaborations

He joined a hip-hop group called Poisonous Poets that released one mixtape (Poisonous Poetry). Poisonous Poets a.k.a Double P was founded by Doc Brown, Reveal, Tony D and Therapist. He is part of another group called Catch 22 created by Kool G Rap. Lowkey also records duets with Logic as part of their non-profit organisation The People's Army, aimed at raising awareness of infant fighting in Israel and Palestine. His work with Logic saw the pair record a song exclusively for the NSPCC, in support of their "Don't Hide It" campaign.

In 2008 news broke of a supergroup that had been created with Jon McClure of the band Reverend and The Makers. Also in the band is Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders and ex-bassist Andy Nicholson alongside bassist of Babyshambles Drew McConnell and a revolving set of other musicians. They have had trouble coordinating their busy careers to perform live dates and their debut album has already been pushed back from October to some time in early 2009 along with a February tour.

Lowkey's highly anticipated (100% independent) album: Soundtrack To The Struggle is estimated to hit the streets in January 2011.
