Street Player (feat. Chaka Khan) Lyrics

I'd never forget those nameless years
Street sounds whirling through my mind
Trouble was often in the air
So we thought to forget our despairCause I'm a street player
And I play you a song (play me a song, play me a song)
Cause my heart and soul
Will carry, carry onCity life's the only way
Street corners and billiard halls
Was my home away
Lesson's learned that still help me todayCause I'm a street player
And I've seen it all (play me a song, play me a song)
Hit men and thieves and many a brawl
But as you will see I still stand tallIt was such a small space and time
I would never knew that I would find
A musical past for all to see exciety to ecstasyI am a streetplayer
I am a streetplayer
I am a streetplayerCause I'm a street player
And I've seen it all (play me a song, play me a song)

But as you can see I still stand tallIt was such a small space and time
I would never knew that I would find
A musical past for all to see exciety to ecstasyI am a streetplayer
I am a streetplayer
I am a streetplayerCause I'm a street player
And I've seen it all (play me a song, play me a song)
The people love your soul
Don't let them down
Play your guitar
Play that funky music, child

A 1970s funk band, best known for launching the career of their lead singer, Chaka Khan. Major hits during their career include "Tell Me Something Good," "Sweet Thing," and "Ain't Nobody"
Rufus gained a fan in Stevie Wonder thanks to their cover of his "Maybe Your Baby." Wonder gave them a new composition, the slowly grinding "Tell Me Something Good," that he'd written specifically with Khan's vocal style in mind. Pulled as a single from their second album, 1974's Rags to Rufus, "Tell Me Something Good" was a Top Five smash that turned Rufus and Khan into stars....
