Sweet Jane Lyrics

Sweet JaneIntro: C D C D C D C D C DD
Oh come sweet Jane for I must go
C
Come closer to me
D G
My trunk is stowed on Johnsons boat
D
With all his companyI heard a loud, like thunder, roar
Out of some canons mouth
I would be welcome safe at home
In my sweet sunny southInstr.
C D C D C D C D C D etcI laboured hard for seven years
Working for my wealth
I lived on bread and salty meat
And I never lost my healthI heard a loud, like thunder, roar
Out of some ships on war
I spied sweet Jane in all her curls
Come stepping to the shoreI led her through the marble halls

And in through her fathers door
A gay young crowd was standing round
All standing on the floorInstr. The parson read our marriage vows
We were wed as one soul for life
Now Jane you are mine without a doubt
A kind and loving wife

The Imagined Village is an English folk musical project founded by Simon Emmerson (of the Afro Celt Sound System) in 2004. It is intended to produce modern folk music that represents modern multiculturalism in the United Kingdom and as such, features musicians from a wide variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The name of the project comes from the 1993 book The Imagined Village by Georgina Boyes. The project started in 2004 and led to the release of an eponymous album in 2007 on Real World Records. Some of the tracks on the album are modern re-interpretations of traditional folk songs.
