"It was the start of a nonstop, 30-year, traveling party!" That's Earl Howell's description of his life after his band's first album went gold when he was just 15 years old. A talented drummer, young Earl had set his sights on becoming a professional musician. He and some of his friends formed a high school band they called "Bright Side of Darkness." When a single on the album, "Love Jones," quickly climbed the music charts, Earl dropped out of school to go on tour. "Every day on the road was a new experience, with a new town — and a new drug — to try," Earl says.
