The Apostles Lyrics

The Apostles-Doug Keith
You walked out to The Apostles
All the way across the water
And you came back burning ember
At least that's how I remember
And you raised your hand so all could see
Dropped it hard when we were all leaving
That's when the willow started to buckle
But we both know it's not that easy
And you called me out
Yeah you called me out
You curse the mountain
And you curse the sea
When you reflected you reflected back on me
In cars and motels and bars and pews
Where typewriters burned and papers flew
I won't laugh unless you're laughing, too
I swear I won't ever laugh at you

Lamplight burst and fever broke
You lost your nerve and you missed the joke
I won't laugh unless you're laughing, too
I swear I won't ever laugh at you
And you called me out
Yeah you called me out
You curse the mountain
And you curse the sea
When you reflected you reflected back on me
And you called me out
Yeah you called me out
You curse the mountain
And you curse the sea
When you reflected you reflected back on me
Inside before the skies opened up
You went down before you felt the cut
I held out my hand to help you up
I didn't mean to let you down so easy
And I've read and reread the words you wrote
"This is doomed, this is sinking boat"
I didn't mean to let you down so easy
Don't worry darling, I'm just leaving
And you called me out
Yeah you called me out
You curse the mountain
And you curse the sea
When you reflected you reflected back on me
And you called me out
Yeah you called me out
You curse the mountain
And you curse the sea
When you reflected you reflected back on me

Doug Keith is a multi-instrumentalist singer songwriter. Formerly bass player with the punk band The Gods Hate Kansas, following their break up he moved back to his native New York from San Francisco and swapped musical directions to a softer, more acoustic direction.

Growing up outside Minneapolis, Minnesota and Syracuse, New York, he was drawn to music early in life. He began playing guitar at the age of 10, developing his chops by having his guitar teacher show him how to play his favorite Replacements, Husker Du and Camper Van Beethoven songs. His teacher further stoked Keith’s musical passion by introducing him to the work of Jimi Hendrix. He began writing songs and formed his first band while in high school, playing chaotic sets in local venues.

Doug Keith has released two solo albums, Here's to Outliving Me and The Lucky Ones and has also played with the band Up The Empire. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
