Hailing from Greensboro, NC, Cytokine Storm is a progressive metal band formed in 2007. The band was founded by lead guitarist Cameron Wilkin, drummer Dave Harris, and guitarist/vocalist Andrew Strobe.
Cytokine Storms’s musical traits involve fast shredding, guitar solos, double bass drumming, and lyrical vocals accompanied by screaming. The band's sound is influenced by bands like Slayer, Converge, Darkest Hour, and Tool.
What exactly is a Cytokine Storm?
Cytokines (Greek cyto-, cell; and -kinos, movement) are small molecules used for cell signaling. During trauma or infection, the body releases thousands of cytokines to signal excruciating pain. A cytokine storm, often caused by novel strains of the flu, reflects Cameron's anxiety and hypochondria, which is often a subject of their songs.
In 2011, Andrew moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, leaving Cytokine Storm without a lead vocalist or guitarist. In the wake of the loss, vocalist Jessica J Paul replaced Andrew Strobe as lead singer, adding an enchanting, melodic quality to Cytokine Storm's music.
Cytokine Storm is currently made up of lead guitarist Cameron Wilkin, rhythm guitarist Bryan Ragan, drummer Dave Harris, bassist Alex Mabe, and lead vocalist Jessica J Paul. The band released their first album, The Art of Dying Well, in April of 2013.
