The Green Leaves of Summer Lyrics

A time to be reaping
A time to be sowing
The green leaves of summer
Are calling me home'Twas so good to be young then
In the season of plenty
When the catfish were jumping
As high as the skyA time just for planting
A time just for ploughing
A time to be courting
A girl of your own'Twas so good to be young then
To be close to the earth
And to stand by your wife
At the moment of birthA time to be reaping
A time to be sowing
A time just for living
A place for to die'Twas so good to be young then
To be close to the earth
Now the green leaves of summer

Are calling me home'Twas so good to be young then
To be close to the earth
Now the green leaves of summer
Are calling me home

The Brothers Four are an American folk group founded in 1957 in Seattle, Washington. Bob Flick, John Paine, Mike Kirkland, and Dick Foley met at the University of Washington, where they were members of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity in 1956. Their first professional performances were the result of a prank played on them in 1958 by a rival fraternity, who had arranged for someone to call them, pretend to be from Seattle's Colony Club, and invite them to come down to audition for a gig.
