The Kingdom Lyrics

One of those days
That just comes and goes
It's not so specialShe watches the birds
Shat rest on a ledge
Outside her roomThe wallpaper old and faded
A crack in the window pane
The radio just keeps playing
Playing that same old songShe smiles to herself
They think that I'm strange
They say I'm a dreamerBut I don't complain
Though I don't have much
To call my ownShe's not a movie star, no
She's not a beauty queen
She'll tell you it doesn't matter
She's not the only oneShe says, "I know a place
Where I keep the best of things
I'm not gonna wait
For my piece of heaven""And where there's a road

Leads to the promised land
I just turn the key
Key to the kingdom"She stares at the page
Of a new magazine
The morning papersShe walks into town
And catches a show
If she can find the timeShe's not a movie star, no
She's not a beauty queen
She'll tell you it doesn't matter
She's not the only oneShe says, "I know a place
Where I keep the best of things
I'm not gonna wait
For my piece of heaven""And where there's a road
Leads to the promised land
I just turn the key
Key to the kingdom"I know a place
Where I keep the best of things
I'm not gonna wait
For my piece of heavenWhere there's a road
It leads to the promised land
I just turn the key
Key to the kingdomI know a place
Where I keep the best of things
I'm not gonna wait
For my piece of heavenAnd where there's a road
Leads to the promised land
I just turn the key
Key to the kingdomI know a place
Where I keep the best of things
I'm not gonna wait
For my piece of heavenWhere there's a road
It leads to the promised land
I just turn the key
Key to the kingdom

Australian new wave band Icehouse was formed in 1977, initially called 'Flowers', by Iva Davies (born Ivor Arthur Davies, on 22 May 1955, in Wauchope, New South Wales, Australia). Inspired by art rock and avant-garde pop, Davies was the main creative force behind the band, being a classically trained musician. Band member Keith Welsh joined him on bass. For a number of years they also obtained the services of Bob Kretschmer, until he was replaced by young guitarist Paul Gildea.
