The Magician's Birthday Lyrics

In the magic garden, some were singing, some were dancing
While the midnight moon shone brightly overhead
The stars so gayly glistened and the sphinx in silence listened
To the magician tell of lives that he has ledLet the bells of freedom ring
Songs of love to Friday's kingLet's all go to the magician's birthday
It's in the forest but not so far away
Much to do and so much to say
While we listen to the oaken orchestra playHappy birthday to you, happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear magician, happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to youAnd at the dead of midnight, as we watched the dancing firelight
The air grew cold and seemed to dour the flame
The fire died, the music faded, filled with fear of death we waited
For now we knew some evil was to blameI challenge you, I challenge you all
For all you own and all you know
And by all the powers of darkness

I will steal what is mineSurrender now or face my spite
I catch you, it may be Friday night
But did you know this day also number thirteenFirst, I give you fire
I turn your fire into a sleepy stream
Yes, now I give you nightmares
From your horror I'll create a dreamYou cannot fight me, for I have the sword of Hades
But one thing you can't see
My answer is simply an impenetrable fortress of love, loveThe fear went as quickly as it came
The air was clear, the fire burned again
The flames leapt beyond the glade, the swan sang to greet the day
And then we knew that
Love will fly
Love will fly
Love will fly

Uriah Heep is a British rock band, officially formed in 1969 in London, England, when record producer Gerry Bron invited keyboardist Ken Hensley (previously a member of The Gods and Toe Fat) to join Spice, members of whom included soon-to-become Heep stalwarts David Byron (vocals) and Mick Box (guitar). The band rapidly grew to become a seminal classic hard rock act of the 1970s and beyond. Their distinctive progressive/art rock/heavy metal fusion has always featured a massive keyboards sound, strong vocal harmonies and (in the early years) David Byron's operatic vocals.

Sometimes jokingly referred to as "The Beach Boys of heavy metal" for their melodic songs, and trademark multi-part harmony backing vocals, although their music draws on diverse influences including psychedelia, gothic sound, progressive rock, hard rock, early heavy metal, jazz, and even country on occasion.

Uriah Heep remains active, its lineup staying steady from 1986 to 2007, when drummer Lee Kerslake left for health reasons, and was replaced by Russell Gilbrook. The current lineup is: Mick Box (guitar, vocals), Trevor Bolder (bass, vocals), Phil Lanzon (keyboards, vocals), Bernie Shaw (lead vocals), and Russell Gilbrook (drums, vocals).
