There is a demon hid inside the heart of the man that lived across the street
as he raised his voice to the family that tried to avoid the heat
the echoes of his angry voice moves on into the night
until he got arrested he never gave up ...
When he returned home to his family he kept his head down and he cried
I’ve seen it all so many times then he tried to apologize
for a day or two the peace returned but it wouldn’t last for long
it was all just back to normal and by normal I mean wrong.
I realise his failure ain’t so hard to understand
because the truth is that his wife is making love to another man
the poor bastard tries to forgive the mother of his child.
and so, every once in a while, the beast awakes in the heart of the man across the street

There’s too much disappointment in the heart of the man across the street
so he beats his wife to make her feel the pain of his defeat
and all the people in the neighbourhood feel sorry for his wife
but they don’t know the truth because they don’t read between the lines.
His furniture and empty bottle breaks against the wall
his wife ran to the neighbours to give the cops another call.
He puts a rope around his neck and he committed suicide
maybe in the next life he’s going to be alright
I realise his failure ain’t so hard to understand
because the truth is that his wife is making love to another man
the poor bastard tries to forgive the mother of his child.
and so, every once in a while, the beast awakes in the heart of the man across the street
Nobody knows where it all went wrong
he tries to carry on but the pain was much too strong
he’s hanging high there ain’t no ground beneath his feet
I’d have to say that I feel sorry for the man that lived across the street.
