The Present Tense (LP Version) Lyrics

Living in the present tense
When you lose the past
And the future makes no sense
You're living in the present tenseCrawling out, secure and confident
Imbued with innocence
Ready for the whirl
Suddenly the view was more intense
Living in a different kind of worldYou're living
Living in the present tense
There's nothing to blame
No victim of consequence
You're living in the present tenseSomething you said
It made me
Step outside ..the moment
Eyes pan right and left
Around my worldOpen yourself
Up to the possibility
Aware of some reality

Outside your worldIn a silent universe
The moment can be so real
You almost can't stand itIn a distant universe
Distracted from ourselves
You can't help but wonderIn a crowded universe
When the talking turns to noise
You almost start laughingYou're living
Living in the present tense
When you lose the past
And the future makes no sense
You're living in the present tense
Nothing to blame
No victim of consequence
You're living in the present tense

Geddy Lee OC (born Gary Lee Weinrib, July 29, 1953) is a Canadian musician who is the vocalist, bassist, and keyboardist for the progressive rock group Rush. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Lee grew up as the son of Polish-Jewish parents who were survivors of Nazi concentration camps Dachau and Bergen-Belsen. Lee's stage name (and later legal name) "Geddy" was inspired by the heavily-accented pronunciation of his given first name "Gary" by his mother. In 2004, Canadian Jewish News would feature Lee's reflections upon her experiences and his own Jewish heritage.
