The Snake - Awooga Cougar

Awooga! What is Awooga Cougar? It’s like asking what is a piece of string, we could be anything and sometimes it’s easier to ask what we’re not and the answer would be dentists. If you persist with this line of questioning and we tell you that 'My frog’s lost his yoghurt' became 'Awooga Cougar' after a brief flirtation with 'Treasure Chest', you’d probably think we’d been licking psychedelic wallpaper or were simply mad as daffodils. That’s one of the reasons we kept the pirate outfits.


We originally formed as a 2 member band when Si met Jimbo at a judo conference. We then experimented with no members for a time after a request from our fan club before moving back 2 and then finding creative harmony as a 3 piece with the introduction of words specialist Binzy. Since then we’ve been writing and performing our own songs about everyday things like heating up soup and hovercrafts.


We did take a brief break from music last year to try our chances in the shipping business, but with no long haul freight experience or ships we eventually folded and lived in a wigwam with a family of otters before reforming to record our first mysteriously untitled EP.


Is rock music back? Can it transcend cultural boundaries if you get the right distribution man in? Is global warming reversible with a big enough fan? We can’t answer any of these questions.
