The Song Is Ended Lyrics

The song is ended
But the melody lingers on
You and the song are gone
But the melody lingers onThe night was splendid
And the melody seemed to say
Summer will pass away
Take your happiness while you mayThere 'neath the light of the moon
We sang a love song that ended too soonThe moon descended
And I found with the break of dawn
You and the song had gone
But the melody lingers on
And on, and on, and on, and on, and onThere 'neath the light of the moon
We sang a love song that ended too soonThe moon descended
And I found with the break of dawn
You and the song had gone
But the melody lingers on
And on, and on, and on, and on, and on, on and on

Annette Hanshaw (October 18, 1901 - March 13, 1985) was one of the first great female jazz singers. In the late 1920s she ranked alongside Ethel Waters, Bessie Smith and The Boswell Sisters. Her singing style was relaxed and suited the new jazz-influenced pop music of the late 1920s. Although she had a low opinion of her own singing, she continues to have fans because of how she combined the voice of an ingenue with the spirit of a flapper.
