The Star Lyrics

My head in the clouds, I can't conceal, conceit
I try to justify your looked, bewitched eye
Am I shining brightly on falsified sky?And I try so hard to be like you
And I'm just a star, and I'll fade away too
Like youYou'll see me as I am but I'm empty inside
We'll suck each other in the blackhole that
Is lifeI can be a fallen star, not fallen from grace
One plane, one world, one sky, so me don't alientateAnd I try so hard to be like you
And I'm just a star, and I'll fade away too
Like youBlind, you will see
Star, that is me

An odd footnote to the British Invasion, English singer and pianist Ian Whitcomb formed his R&B group Bluesville in Dublin, Ireland. He never had a hit in the U.K. and wasn't all that wild about rock & roll in the first place, preferring traditional forms of blues, ragtime, and Tin Pan Alley. But "You Turn Me On" -- a tongue-in-cheek three-chord knockoff at the end of a session with exaggerated falsetto vocals and an unforgettable orgasmic vocal hook -- hit number eight in America in 1965, and Whitcomb was briefly a star.
