The Water is Wide Lyrics

The water is wide, I can not cross over
Neither have I wings to fly
Give me a boat that can carry two
And both shall row, my love and I
Love is gentle and love is kind
The sweetest flower when first it's new
But love grows old and waxes cold
And fades away like morning dew
The water is wide, I can not cross over
Neither have I wings to fly
Give me a boat that can carry two
And both shall row, my love and I
And both shall row, my love and I

I grew up in Virginia and fell in love with the piano when I was little. My parents taught me ukelele and guitar, too. There was always music around, from the Hon-o-lees (a 6 member group my parents performed with all the time we were in Virginia) to the music at Amherst Presbyterian Church. Laura didn't know music was her purpose in life until she went away to college--by then the family had moved to Florida.
